Diabetes Defined

Inability to use glucose for fuel in your cells, sometimes because you no longer make the hormone insulin but more often because your cells have become resistant to insulin. Non insulin dependent diabetes ifs the most common type of diabetes. It happens when your cells become resistant to insulin, a hormone made in your pancreas. This form of diabetes usually begins in adults over age 40, and is most common after age 55.
